Working with the project’s lead architect, Boulevard Studios
developed the technical documents for the landscape and hardscape design at the Greater Cleveland
Regional Transit Authority’s Green/Blue Line station at East 116th Street and Shaker Boulevard.
The design addresses erosion concerns along steep side slopes flanking the tracks as well as improved
pedestrian access down to the platform, situated approximately fifteen feet below the street level.
Boulevard Studios carefully considered the project’s palette, vetting the plants for their
ability to hold the slope, and employed boulders and aggregate material where needed. The rock material
further serves to lend interest and contrast to the design. The plant selections will bring visual
interest with color, texture, and movement but can withstand the rigors of light-rail traffic and the
site’s urban environment.
The project budget was limited, therefore the firm carefully monitored the cost and reported,
via cost opinion worksheets, the updated pricing for the proposed work. Doing so kept the landscape
portion of the project well within budget.
